Which Hawaiian island(s) should we visit?
- We have visited all of the major Hawaiian islands. In my opinion Kauai
is the most beautiful and diverse of the islands. This is why it is called
the "Garden Island". It is also why we chose to buy a home here.
In four years of living on the island there are still many things we have
not seen. It is truly an amazing place to visit or live.

Should we try to visit more than one island?
In our experience, if you only have one week, then we would recommend you
only visit one island and that would be Kauai. If you have two weeks then we
would recommend you visit either the Big Island or Maui.
The reason is that you lose too much time in moving from one island to another
and you never really get to see even the major attractions. We believe after
you have seen all of the major islands, Kauai will be the one you will want
to come back to.

|
Will we need to rent a car?
Yes. There is limited public transportation. For car rental quotes, use
800 numbers found in your local yellow pages. All major car rental
agencies such as Hertz, National, Thrifty, Budget and Alamo are located at
the main airport in Lihue.

American have direct daily flights from San Francisco and LA.

Can I get an inter-island flight easily?
Flights for both Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines, the inter-island carriers,
arrive and depart almost every hour until around 7:00PM in the evening.
Super saver fares are available from both airlines and offer significant discounts.

What is the weather like?
Kauai is fortunate to have a moderate climate year-round, with
little seasonal variation in temperature. Rainfall varies
significantly around the island from 15-20 inches on the
south end of the island to in excess of 450 inches at the crater. We get
about 30-35 inches per year at Kauai Beach Villas. Princeville gets around
60 to 65 inches per year and is cooler than Lihue. Summer
months tend to be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, while winter
months bring an increase in clouds and periodic rain showers.
During the wetter winter months, precipitation tends to come in
brief spells, and there are relatively few periods of prolonged rain.
Rains typically fall at night and early in the morning hours.
The nice thing about Kauai is that the weather is very localized,
so if it's raining in one location it is usually possible to
drive a few miles to a dry sunny location.

Is the condo air-conditioned?
Yes. There is a window unit in each bedroom. We very seldom use
the air conditioning as the lanai doors will lock in a
partially open (i.e.- about 6 inches) position. This allows the normal 15
MPH trade winds coming in from the ocean to flow through the condo.
Both of the bedrooms also have ceiling fans. Once in a while during
the summer, air conditioning is nice to have especially if the normal
trade winds stop.

|
What is the water temperature and is the beach safe?
The water temperature varies from summer highs of approximately
82 degrees to a low of about 74 degrees during the coolest
winter months. Kauai can have large waves and strong currents in
the winter that can make its beaches dangerous. Watch for warning
flags and posted beach conditions. Lydgate Park, just 2 miles
away, is a great place to swim and snorkel. It has a protected
area for both adults and children. With Kauai's more than 50 miles
of beaches, there's always more than one great spot for you
to enjoy the water.

What about laundry facilities?
The condo has a utility closet complete with washer and dryer. There is no
charge for using either. There is a complimentary small sample box of
detergent to get you through till you have time to go to the store.

|
How close are you to snorkeling beaches?
One of the best snorkeling beaches, Lydgate Park, is located
within two miles of Kauai Beach Villas. Several beaches.
Makua Beach, Tunnels Beach and Poipu also offer excellent snorkeling.

What should I wear?
Island lifestyle is relaxed and informal. Shorts or bathing suits with
a shirt or cover-up are appropriate for most breakfast and lunch
restaurants. Casual or dress is acceptable for most dinner establishments
Mu`u mu`us and aloha shirts are always acceptable.

Are there churches nearby?
All major denominations are available within 10 minutes of Kauai Beach
Villas. Most are located in Lihue or Kapa'a.

|
Will I have access to a telephone, fax or copy machine?
Telephones are located in each bedroom and the living room and can
be used for voice or data communication. The telephone provides for
free local calls and toll-free calls. Long distance is available
by using a calling card or collect. The resort next door would
probably provide business services for a fee. Cell phone service on
the island is available through most major carriers.

|
What is provided?
The condo is fully furnished and ready for your arrival. The kitchen is fully supplied with all kitchen utensils for
cooking and eating. There is also an iron and ironing board. Trash
containers are located just outside in the parking lot. Most homes in
Hawaii have a "shoes off" policy and there are water faucets at the entrance
to each door to wash sand off when coming in from the beach.
